Uses for Matterport:
Property
Matterport is popular with real estate agents and managers, as the scanner can be used to create virtual tours of residential and commercial properties. This allows buyers and tenants to view properties in 3D and navigate the space without being physically present, making viewings easier and more accessible.
- A complete immersive experience – Let customers explore the property with Dollhouse View and guided tours tailored to the target audience.
- Interactive information – Use Mattertags to add descriptions, links, videos, and images directly to the tour.
- Easy sharing and marketing – Share links to 3D tours so customers can see the property virtually, reduce travel expenses, and easily share the experience with others.
- Effective communication and faster sales – Precise measurements and visual details help clarify questions and promote faster decisions.
Construction, architecture and Engineering
Matterport is used to document construction projects and renovations. The scanning provides accurate measurements of existing conditions, which is useful for architects, engineers, and contractors who need to plan and coordinate work on site.
- Efficient surveying and as-built documentation – Replace manual surveys with precise 3D scans that can be imported directly into BIM software.
- Sharing project progress and inspections - Document project status and perform remote inspections to save time and ensure better communication with owners and partners.
- Virtual punch lists – Use 3D models with notes, images, and links for more efficient communication and project review.
- Smooth project handover – Share a digital twin for easier handover and better understanding of the completed project.
Insurance
Matterport scanners are also used for property inspection and documentation, such as assessing damage in insurance cases. The detailed 3D model makes it easier to record and document damage and property condition, which can speed up assessment processes and claims.
- Accurate and fast documentation of the damage site – Get precise measurements and documentation of the actual conditions quickly and efficiently.
- Easy sharing and collaboration – Virtually share the accident scene with lawyers and other relevant people for better understanding and communication.
- Efficient case management – Reduce case management time by providing access to documentation and using tagging for comments and notes.
- Increased transparency and fairness – Improve the decision-making basis with accurate data and transparency, so that the right decisions are made in the case.
Retail and commercial spaces
Within retail and commercial environments, Matterport can be used to plan and present spatial solutions, for example when renovating stores or designing office spaces.
- User-friendly navigation – Add labels and Mattertags to help customers find products and shop easily.
- Visibility and Marketing – Upload your Matterport tour to Google Street View to make your business easier to find and more accessible.
- Virtual Presentations – Create guided tours and auto-generated videos/images to highlight special areas or products.
- Effective onboarding and safety – Showcase store layouts and safety measures with labels and measurements, and virtually introduce new employees to their workplace.
Industry and manufacturing
Matterport is used in industry for efficient facility management, production optimisation, and maintenance. For example, 3D scanning with Matterport makes it possible to walk through and inspect factories and production lines in detail.
- Accurate documentation and surveying – Create a precise, digital model that simplifies inspection, planning, and maintenance.
- Efficient remote access and collaboration - Share virtual tours with colleagues and partners for better coordination.
- Reduced downtime - Use the model for faster identification and resolution of issues without physical presence.
- Improved security - Identify risk areas and optimise security measures with visual access to facilities.
